LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) – Kevin Sorbo, the star of the sophomore syndicated SF series “Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda,” is 6’3 tall, but not everybody else is. That was the problem facing James Marsters (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), when he headed up to Vancouver, Canada, last May to film a guest appearance.

He might be defanged, but he still has some bite. James Marsters tells us why Spike wants to jump The Slayer’s bones…

Acting out the final grief-driven moments of The Gift – Buffy The Vampire Slayer‘s Season Five cliffhanger, in which Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) sacrificed herself to spare her sister Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) and quite possibly the whole planet from a date with death proved far less challenging than James Marsters ever expected. “It was easy,” notes the actor, who’s spent the last four seasons sinking his teeth into the role of the vampire Spike…

Big Hit: Hello James, how are you?

James Marsters: (The voice down the phone line comes back with an American accent – being from California, he doesn’t actually sound like Spike at all) Hello Carolyn. I’m doing very well. Let me turn down [legendary jazz saxophonist] Charlie Parker, OK? (he runs to the other side of his house and turns down the CD) Good Afternoon or evening or middle-of-the-night or whatever…

For some Buffy and Angel stars, the performing doesn’t end when the cameras stop rolling, as Matt Springer discovers

Imagine that the next time Giles pops into the Espresso Pump for a solo acoustic set, Spike shows up with his own axe for a mean, mellow duet of the Sex Pistol’s “God Save the Queen.” Or when Lindsey McDonald is stressing over the pressures of life at Wolfram & Hart, he hits the stage to blow off steam with some dirty country rock.

Spike can go in one of two directions, according to the star who plays the vampire.

“Out of his love for Buffy, he could be driven to embrace good. He is a fool for love. If his love is great enough for Buffy, that would be interesting,” James Marsters said at a recent press party for The WB.

James Marsters nearly went batty.

The actor, who plays the vampire Spike on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” had just read the script for the fifth-season finale, “The Gift.” In it, series creator Joss Whedon killed off the show’s main character, Buffy Summers (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who sacrificed herself to save her sister (Michelle Trachtenberg) and the world as we know it.

So James, as we all know, the show’s changed networks this year after 5 years on the WB. Is there anything that’s different now it’s moved to UPN? A bigger budget, perhaps?
Yeah. More Snickers bars on set.

On Monday 18th June I traveled up to Birmingham for the ‘Evening with James Masters’ event organised by a group called The Wolves of Fenric. I had never been to an event like this before, so it was very much a new experience for me. The doors for the event were due to open at 7pm, and though I arrived at 6:15 in the hope of beating the rush I found myself…

He was once meant to be a here-today, staked-tomorrow villain. But four years on, Spike is Buffy’s latest squeeze, and a mark of the show’s maturity, as much-loved star James Marsters explains… Buffy the Vampire Slayer isn’t the show it was. As the sixth season goes on, it’s increasingly clear that it’s grown up. Buffy’s no longer a carefree teenager in the throes of first love, and that change is reflected by her distinctly physical connection with the neutered vampire Spike – as the man behind his bleach-blond crop explains… Why does Buffy The Vampire Slayer work so well?

For a blood-sucking vamp, Spike certainly has it going on in the style department, and James Marsters’ fashion sense is pretty much the same.

His portrayer, James Marsters, admits Spike’s fashion sense and his own are fairly identical – with one basic exception: “I don’t kill people for my clothes,” he jokes. “I have to buy them.”

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is all grown up, but she’s still falling for bad guys who stay up past midnight. SHERYN GEORGE meets James Marsters, who plays her latest love.

Alone with a vampire. And not just any vampire. Alone with the best-looking bloodsucker this side of the hell-mouth. Only tonight in Sunnydale, scary, sexy, Spike is polite, flu-ridden James Marsters. So, no chance of some neck action. Bummer.

Well. Well, well, well. I’m trying to write this review…but I keep glazing over. My head is swimming with dream-like images of my beautiful Spike. Spike as a big ol’ nerd, pining and penning godawful love poetry. Spike as Billy Idol, kickin’ down on the mean movin’ subway. Spike in the present, demanding spicy buffalo wings. Spike, Spike, Spike. Mmmm.

He’s got a passion for Passions and a crush on The Slayer, but somehow he still manages to hold up his bad boy image. James Marsters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer tells The WB what it’s like to be the baddest incapacitated vampire around.

The WB: Did you have any clue when starting out that you’d make it big on Buffy?
James: Nope. When I got the part, Spike was supposed to die after three to five episodes. In fact, I think the original plan had me down as Angel’s first victim. They told me, ‘Look, we’re going to bring you on for three to five episodes.’ Then we hit number six and just kept going.

James Marsters’ bad-boy ways kill us on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Offscreen, he’s just as devilish.

HIS CLOSEST CASTMATE
– Sarah Michelle Gellar. “It’s ironic, because when we were first shooting together, she said ‘I don’t take friends home from work, if you know what I mean.’ I was like, ‘Totally cool. I don’t either.’ Then we became friends.”
